I don't see any problem with your lineup, Harper_ROY. I don't see back to back lefties in the rotation with Lannan and Gorzelanny, though. I could see JZimm 2nd, but then Lannan would have to be 3 and Gorzelanny 5, IMHO.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Joe's lineup exactly; LaRoche bats 4th to go R-L-R-L. I cannot for the life of me figure out why Bernadina is the presumed starter over Morse right now; Morse patently out hit him last year, shows more power, and is an athletic former infielder who should be fine in left. But for whatever reason he's the presumed starter.
ReplyDeleteRotation: Agree with Joe again. Gorzelanny is out of options and we aren't paying him $2M plus the prospects we gave up to have him be a middle reliever. Maya is optioned to AAA to start and replaces the first injured starter.

I've always liked Lannan's craftiness, but if his guile falters even a little, he could be surpassed by Maya or others.
Another prediction is member of starting lineup who will be the first to depart the starting lineup, whether by injury, trade, benching, or whatever. My money, regrettably, is on Morgan.
I agree that Joe's is better, I would much rather have LaRoche hitting 4th to split up the righties. But I am going based on what I THINK it will be, Riggs has never really bothered with spliting up lefty-righty batters in the lineup.
ReplyDeleteWith that in mind, he does play batter-pitcher splits pretty frequently, and considering we are playing the Braves on Opening Day... Their Opening Day starter will most likely be Tim Hudson, a righty, and if not him it will be Tommy Hanson, also a righty. So, with those factors, it stands to reason that, playing the matchups, the left-handed hitting Bernadina would start over the right-handed hitting Morse.
Maya is a shot in the dark, I'm thinking that his insanely impressive Winter League performance (pitcher of the year) carries over to Spring Training, leaving riggs no choice but to put him in the rotation.

ReplyDeletePower pitchers first ... after opening day. Remember,its likely Zimmermann, Gorzelanny and perhaps Detwiler will have strong April/May pitching appearances. Then, there's the soft-tossing rubber armed Livo who might serve the team best for the bullpen in long relief / spot start capacity.

Lannan and Marquis look like tradable commodities if the top 3 pan out. Lefty Tom Milone is very close and Livo is probably a better choice at #5 than Marquis this year. I expect the rotation to change after Memorial Day. Mock is a dark horse but both he and Detwiler (and Wang) must prove they have their velocity back.
Rotation looks good to me. I think Morgan's gonna have a killer year if he can avoid those "knucklehead" outbursts.
